Making extra money every day

We all know money doesn’t grow on trees – but it sure would be nice if it did! So for this reason you’re going to need to be prepared to put time and effort in to making your extra cash.

That doesn’t always mean getting extra qualifications or trying to learn new skills and in fact many of these money making methods are really easy – you can do them in your PJs.

How to make £100 extra a day UK

If you want to make £100 extra (or even $100) per day it is totally possible!

But I think it’s important to be really sensible about how you use your time. There are certain methods of making money that are less efficient than others, so it’s important to focus your efforts on the things that actually work.

For example just doing surveys may bring in a few pounds a day, but it won’t be enough to bring in £100 a day alone. So you may need to combine side hustles to achieve your goal.

Working for yourself – with one or more side hustles that can make passive income once you’ve put the work in to build it up – is the most efficient way to hit your goal!

Here are 13 side hustles that can combine to earn you that extra £100 – and more if you do them all:

  1. Surveys – potential earnings of £20 a day
  2. Mystery shopper – potential earnings of £10 to £20 a day
  3. Pet sitter or dog walker – potential earnings of £25+ a day
  4. Become a virtual assistant – potential earnings of £50+ a day
  5. Social media influencer – potential earnings of £50+ a day
  6. YouTuber – potential earnings of £10+ a day

  10. Online tuition – potential earnings of £50+ a day
  11. Rent out your stuff – potential earnings of £5+ a day

  13. Always use cashback sites – potential earnings of £2+ a day

There are lots of flexible jobs that can make you £100 a day while working from home.

As a mum of two I especially love money-making methods that are flexible and can be done around the family!

So this list of jobs that will make an extra £100 are all freelance, involve being home-based and are legit. I avoid anything like MLM (multi-level marketing or pyramid schemes) because I think it’s just too much of a risk.

There are several jobs that will make you £100 a day working from home (or using home as a base rather than being in an office). They include:

Survey sites

I enjoy using survey sites when I’m feeling a bit fed up with normal work tasks and I want to focus my brain on something totally different.

They don’t make me a ton of money (less than the hourly rate I would charge for my blog or PR services) but they are quick and convenient.

My favourite survey site is Prolific. The surveys are really interesting and pay quite well. Surveys generally pay at a rate of around £7.77 an hour and most surveys take just two to 10 minutes to complete.

I’ve only made around £20 total from Prolific, because I don’t put a whole bunch of time in. But that’s enough to buy the kids a takeaway pizza and I’m happy.

I also enjoy using YouGov and Swagbucks.

Mystery shopping and task apps

Sign up to apps that will give you paid jobs involving testing out a brand’s customer service and customer experience.

You get to choose what tasks you take on and can generally do them in your own time. Tasks will involve visiting a shop, restaurant or other business.

It could involve taking pictures that you upload in the app or just answering a series of questions. How long each task takes can vary from as quick as 10 minutes to snap a photo of a display to over an hour.

Some apps to try include:

  • Field Agent
  • BeMyEye
  • Streetbees
  • Roamler
  • Streetspotr
  • iShop for Ipsos

You can also try signing up to a mystery shopping agency such as Tern which will contact you with opportunities in your area.

Start a blog

Getting a blog to a stage where it will make you £100 a day takes time and a lot of focus.

But it is entirely possible. Plus the big bonus is that for many bloggers once they have a blog set up with traffic coming from Google, they don’t have to spend hours on it every week.

It will require maintenance, but once you’ve done the hard bit of creating the blog, making the content and optimising it for search engine traffic, then you can ease off a bit.

I would say it takes a blog around one to two years to make real money – depending on how much time you have to put into your blog biz!

That’s based on my own experience plus this is what experts such as the guys at Income School say. They run a coaching programme called Project 24, because they say it takes 24 months for a blog to become profitable.

You can make income from your blog through a number of ways. These include affiliate marketing (where you recommend products sold by other people or businesses and get a payment for sending customers to them), advertising (where ads are placed on your blog by a company such as Mediavine), and sponsored posts.

There’s no one-size-fits-all way to blog and different bloggers will earn their cash in various different ways.

If you want to make money blogging these are the key things to remember when setting out:

  • Pick a niche and stick to it (my life with kids isn’t necessarily going to cut it, think about a topic where you can actually help people). Some good blog niches include home DIY, home decor, crafts (knitting, crochet, sewing etc), home organisation and cooking. It’s worth really researching your blog niche first so that you can see what the competitors in this area are doing and how you can bring something different or even spot a gap in the market.
  • Choose a self-hosted domain. You can set up a website totally free but you won’t be able to place ads on it due to the way it’s hosted. Setting up a self-hosted website will cost you money upfront BUT it’s not too much (you can see how much it costs to set up a blog in this post).
  • Focus on creating content. You need blog posts on your site. This should be what you spend the lion share of your time on when getting started with a blog. Aim to get 50 blog posts written within six months (even better if you can get 80 blog posts written). These should be optimised for SEO to increase you chance of getting traffic from Google.
  • Be patient. It takes time for your blog to be picked up on Google and to build an audience. It took this new blog around six months before posts began appearing on the search engine results. Not it has a couple of page one spots and a number one spot for certain keywords!

Become a childminder

If you love kids then being a childminder or babysitter could be a great option for earning extra money.

The job can fit well around your own kids, and gives them some other children to play with at home too!

There are a few things you will need to do in order to get started as a childminder, such as registering with Ofsted and passing a child first aid course.

However once you are up and running you will find it a really rewarding job.

Potential daily earnings: £100

Be an online tutor

If you have teaching experience or are educated to degree level in a subject then online tutoring is a fantastic way to make money from home.

Some of the sites that connect tutors with pupils will require you to have some kind of teaching qualification, but some will allow university students to work as online tutors in their subject.

The easiest way to get started is to join a tutoring website such as MyTutor who will connect you with students.

Potential daily earnings: £100+

Freelance writing

This is a great side hustle to make extra cash because the work is so flexible.

The hardest part is building up your portfolio and landing your first client.

Many freelance writers start off with a blog where they can showcase their writing style, and also demonstrate expertise in a particular niche.

Other freelance writers start off writing for free at first, providing articles for websites that take free opinion pieces or columns, so they can build up a portfolio to show to potential paying clients.

Sell stuff on Etsy

If you have a creative side then selling stuff on Etsy could be a great way to make extra money!

Sellers on Etsy are making thousands of pounds with a huge range of products, from printable invitations and home organisation checklists to jewellery and party decorations.

It’s really quick to set up an Etsy shop front and once it’s there you can get selling right away.

You will need to work to promote your products and send people to your Etsy store, because there are lots of sellers on there competing for people’s attention.

How much you can actually make really depends on what you sell, what it’s priced at and how much of it you can sell.

Some people make a few pounds a month while others are pulling in a full-time income.

I have my own Etsy shop which currently makes me a few pounds extra a month. I’m working to build it up and hope to get it bringing in daily sales in the next year. The key is to find a niche and create unique products that people really need – whether they are physical products or digital products.

Potential daily earnings: £5-£100+

Become a dog walker or pet sitter

If you love dogs and animals then this is a wonderful option!

It may be that you already know people in your local area who have dogs and would happily pay you to help them out with walking their pet.

However you can also get started by using online services such as Dog Walking Now who will connect you with pet owners.

How much you can earn really depends on where you live and how much demand there might be for the service. You may need to be flexible on timings for clients, who may want you to walk dogs at a specific time of day.

Potential daily earnings: £50+

Rent a room in your home

Got a spare bedroom gathering dust in your home?

If you are happy to have a lodger in your house then why not consider renting it out?

The government has a Rent a Room scheme that allows you keep up to £7,500 of the rent you earn from renting out a spare room tax free.

You can connect with potential renters on sites such as Spare Room.

Potential daily earnings: £20

Rent out your driveway

Got a huge driveway in a convenient spot? You could make cash simply by allowing people to pay to park there!

This is popular with commuters who want to avoid the eye-watering cost of parking at public car parks in town and city centres.

You will earn more if you live in certain parts of London where parking is at a premium.

There are various websites such as Your Parking Space where you can advertise and find potential customers for your driveway!

Rent your stuff

Renting out gardening or cleaning equipment could net you a few extra pounds every month!

Not everyone has the space for gardening tools, bicycles or thing such as carpet cleaners, so many will pay to rent them from others.

You’ll need to make sure everything is in good working condition before getting started. This won’t necessarily provide a reliable regular stream of income, but may give you a decent boost here and there.

Website such as Fat Llama and Rent Not Buy can connect you with potential customers, plus they give you lender protection too for your goods.

Potential daily earnings: £10+

Rent out your spare storage

Storage companies have become big business in recent years as people struggle to find room for all of their stuff.

You could make use of spare space in your garage, loft or shed by renting out the space to people who need to store their stuff.

The Store Mates website connects people with spare storage with customers.

Potential daily earnings: £2

Use cash back sites

If you are not already using cash back websites then you should be!

The money is there for the taking and you can earn cash back from pretty much all of the major retailers by using cash back websites.

This is how it works:

  • You visit the cash back site and click their link to the shop or brand you want to buy from. You can also install browser extensions for some cash back firms so this is done automatically for you.
  • Make your purchases.
  • You will receive cash back from the cash back site!

They can afford to pass money on to you because they make a commission from the sale. They pass some of that commission back to you.

Potential daily earnings: Depends on how much you buy but adds up over time.

Sell your old clothes

Got clothes that you haven’t worn in a year taking up space in your wardrobe? Clear them out and sell them for cash!

There are tons of great opportunities to selling old clothes online to make extra cash.

Well-known sites such as eBay or Vinted are great for selling your clothes, but there are lots of other more specialist sites such as Depop and Rebelle which may suit what you’re trying to sell.

There are also shops such as H&M and M&S which will take your old clothes and give you shopping vouchers in exchange for them!

Everything you need to know about selling your old clothes for money is over on this post.

Potential daily earnings: £10+

Sell unwanted stuff

Do you have a pile of unwanted gifts or unused items stuffed in drawers and you’re unsure when you will ever get around to using them?

Why not give them a loving home instead of letting them lay to waste.

Having a good clear out of your home can often give you a decent cash injection. Check your loft for old baby stuff you no longer need or consider selling those reusable nappy covers – they tend to be really popular in second hand baby stuff groups.

You can sell unwanted gifts at online auction websites such as eBay or use Facebook Marketplace – which I much prefer over eBay these days.

Facebook selling is easier because there are no fees and you can tap into local buy and sell groups on the platform which mean you can ask people to collect the item – no postage hassle for you!

Potential daily earnings: £10+

Sell other people’s unwanted stuff

There are people out there with stuff to sell but they don’t have the time, or feel worried about taking photos themselves. This is where you can come in!

If you know how to make clothes get snapped up on Vinted or Facebook Marketplace then try setting up your own resell business.

Customers send you a bundle of clothes or other items they want to sell, you list them and then keep a percentage of the sale!

Potential daily earnings: £50+

Get smart with your money

Why not try leveraging the money you already have to make the most of it?

There are a few different things you can do with cash you have in savings in order to get them to work harder for you, plus some other methods too.

Premium bonds have mixed success for people – I’ve made lots of welcome extra cash and beaten the bank interest rate with my premium bonds. The more bonds you buy – to a maximum of £50k – the greater your chance of winning the top prizes.

You could also try switching your bank account. You get bonus cash just for opening new current accounts! Check out what deals are out there and you could make several hundred pounds over the course of a year.
